Farming through the Generations
Middle Rock came into existence in 1950 when Bruce’s parents settled on the recently subdivided property. Bruce and Lyn gained ownership in 1975 and farmed Middle Rock until 2023 when ownership transferred to their daughter, Charlotte and her husband, Vince. Charlotte and Vince’s 3 children are now the fourth generation on Middle Rock. The property farms entirely sheep. In 1990 Middle Rock opened to tourism, initially with garden tours. Soon after a farm tour experience was added. In 2012 the farm’s existing Shearers’ Quarters caught fire leading to a complete rebuild. In 2015 Middle Rock opened the Shearers’ Quarters – Middle Rock Farm Stay as purpose built tourism accommodation attracting a diverse clientele of domestic and international visitors. Middle Rock is part of the Lake Coleridge basin, an area of stunning high country scenery also offering a wide range of outdoor recreational activities for all ages.
